Canoeing Club 2012

The Trent Lock Scout Activity Centre, Long Eaton canoeing team are running a canoeing course for Beginners, so if you have ever sat and played in a canoe and thought “This is fun; I’d like to do more of this”? And for Improvers - if you want to brush up on your skills in canoeing with an emphasis on Open boats.


When and Where

The courses will run on the River Trent at The Scout Activity Centre at Trent Lock.on Thursday evenings from 24th May for 6 consecutive weeks (excluding 7th June) . We'll start at 6:45pm and finish at 9:00pm.


The beginners course

Learn to paddle a kayak and have a lot of fun - safely; have a go in several different types of canoe; play games; get wet sometimes. This course should allow successful candidates to achieve the BCU Paddlepower Passport award or the BCU one-star test dependant on ability and age. N.B All participants must be over 11 years of age, be able to swim 50m fully clothed / or hold equivalent ASA grade 6.


The improvers course

This year we will be running an Open boat course for those who are already at one-star or two-star skill level and would like to learn more. It is a big step up to the next level the BCU Paddlepower Discover award or the BCU 2-star or 3-star awards (ability and age dependant) and usually more than can be done in 6 weeks but if you are up to it by then you can do the test


What will it cost?


The charge for the course will be £40, which includes use of all the equipment and the test or assessment at the end If you wish to take part. If you are successful and pass these tests or assessments -to receive your certificate there will be either a nominal fee payable to the Scout activity centre or to the BCU dependent on the test / assessment taken.

Spaces are usually allocated on a first come first served basis and are limited so get your booking in early. The closing date for this course is Friday 4th May.

To help with administration, all monies and health/ consent forms will be required prior to the course starting.
